Vacancy: Bookkeeper

Chemonics seeks a bookkeeper for the ongoing USAID-funded Regional Economic Cooperation (REC) Project in Kazakhstan. The project works to improve the environment for cross-border trade among Central-Asian countries, Afghanistan, and larger trading partners of these countries such as China and Russia through implementing activities such as adoption, refinement and implementation of best practices, international agreements, conventions and standards that govern trade. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assist the Finance and Operations Manager in overseeing finances and budgets
• Prepare cash requests, expenditures and procurements up to $500
• Manage and disburse petty cash, including recording expenses and ensuring receipts are received.
• Prepare monthly financial reports,
• Assist with reconciling and balancing local bank account and grants bank account
• Assist with the input of expensesintoChemonics’ accounting software.
• Support the Finance Manager in supervising cash disbursals, back-up documentation, hard file management, and reporting.
• Interact with bank and other officials on an as-needed basis.
• Perform payroll procedures; ensure the availability, timeliness, and accuracy of time sheets.
• Maintain reimbursement files
• Obtain documentation and approval for all transactions.
• Maintain grants accounting records and files. Also maintains transparent and audit-proof grant record keeping systems per Chemonics’ policies.
• Register all employees with appropriate government agencies and ensure that proper income taxes and social charges are withheld.
• Support the Finance and Operations Manager manage the local accounting (1C).
• Perform other tasks assigned by the Finance and Operations Manager on an ad hoc basis that are consistent with this Scope of Work and the general requirements of the project.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial supportrequired
• University degree or diploma in bookkeeping, accounting, finance, business or a related field required
• Minimum 1 year professional 1C accounting experience required
• Knowledge of USAID regulations and contract management procedures preferred
• Knowledge or experience with grants management and USAID grants regulations preferred
• Excellent financial management and organizational skills, attention to detail
• Ability to communicate effectively in English preferred
• Experience in relevant development assistance fields preferred.
